A coconut is hollowed out and attached to a tree. At the bottom of the coconut, a small slit is made and some sweet food is placed inside. The hole in the coconut is just big enough for the monkey to insert his open hand, but not big enough to withdraw his closed fist.

As long as the monkey holds on to the sweets—making a fist, he cannot remove his hand from the trap. If he lets it go, he can go free. Eventually, the hunters come and capture a monkey that was trapped by his own greed.
I’ve determined that there is nothing more important to me than my freedom.
What are you holding...that's holding you?

Bishop Moultrie preached this message once but it had a different perspective. So often we go to the Lord praying, praying, praying, asking Him to fix a situation in our lives. We wonder what is taking Him so long, we hasn't He fixed it yet or turned things around, the reason being we never surrendered the situation to Him. We never let go, we kept holding it close. We never took our hands off, so He could put His hands on it, to fix it.
As I read I thought: Faith has to be released in order to receive what God has for you. In order to release your faith, you must surrender your will before God responds. Many of us ask, but continue to hold on to our doubts based on circumstances. If you go after God based on who He is and not on what He has to offer, your hands will always be open to receive..
