On Purpose

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. John 18:37 (KJV)

Regardless of your faith, the influence of Jesus is undeniable. He obviously had a tremendous impact on the world during his lifetime, and 2000 years later, he is still the focus of one of the world's largest religions.

What makes Jesus such an influential figure?

I believe we only have to look as far as the statement he made in the quote above. Jesus knew his purpose. He knew why he existed. He knew what his assignment was on earth.

Knowing your purpose has tremendous implications. Let me share a few:

1. Your purpose, or your assignment, is given to you by your creator. Inventors create things with a purpose in mind. If we understand this, we would then do a better job of staying connected to our creator--the one who has given us our purpose.

2. Knowing my purpose keeps me focused. I believe that one of our greatest impediments to progress is lack of focus. Many of us live our lives "all over the place" simply because we have not identified what we are really supposed to be doing.

3. Fulfillment comes when we execute our purpose. If our creator has an assignment for us to complete, then we have been designed and equipped with the tools to do the job. When we chase other things for fulfillment (fame, wealth, prestige), we end up tired and empty.

Find your purpose and pursue it. In doing so, you'll find your life.
