I try to live my life based on values and principles. In a world where folks are encouraged to do what feels good, and during times when ethics and morality are situational, I still believe that 'Right' and 'Wrong' still exists. By governing my life based upon certain values, I am usually free to decide and behave.
But what happens when 2 values collide? What happens when there is no clear 'Right' and 'Wrong'?
Let me give you an example...
Value #1: Sunday is a day that I have designated as a day for public worship. This tis the day of the week that I have chosen to attend my local church. Barring health emergencies, I believe that I am supposed to be a part of a local worship service.
Value #2: Parents should have their children involved in extracurricular activities, (assuming they are in good academic standing). Whether it be sports, the arts, or boy/girl scouts, participation in such activities helps our children develop and keeps them out of trouble.
Where I live, many of these activities occur on Sundays.
Here's the conflict: I really want my children involved in activities that help to make them well-rounded, but not at the expense of violating what I believe to be another value--devotion to God through public worship.
You don't have to respond to this particular example, but I'd like to get your thoughts on how to handle conflicting values.

My son plays little league baseball and occasionally they have games on Sunday. If the Game collides with morning worship we generally miss out on those games. I explain to my son why and the importance of putting God first.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto to you.
i cant think of any other so I will roll with your example because it has affected me in the past and its rearing its head again. I wont compromise my Sunday. It is the one day of the week that we come together as a congregation for "that" service. Yes there are other services during the week but none on the level of a Sunday morning. I think the decision is different if all games or some games are on Sunday.
I suppose I am in the minority also. My kids choose to work on Sunday. My husband stays home to watch sport or do whatever it is he does. I go to church mostly alone. I don't argue I just pray that the Lord will change their hearts and minds. Besides it is practically the only alone time I have in a week.
Most of the Cheerleading Competitions are on Sunday, so I will miss those Sundays to support the competition. I try at least to make a weekday service to replace the Sunday I miss which could be two a month. I divide my time between two churches so that I can get the best of both spiritual worlds and I love that. I am extremely tied up with church and school activities during the week I hardly spend an evening at home. High school football, basketball and pre-school functions which thankfully are never on Sunday. If I didn't support them in their activities, they would be upset to say the least. Pray for me.
