A Product of My Past

In a recent posting, one of the commenters wrote... "As a product of a very dogmatic church structure growing up, I have very strong feelings on this topic. "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but essentially they said, "My feelings TODAY (as an adult) are a result of my experiences GROWING UP."

It hit me like a ton of bricks...I feel the way I do NOW, based on the experiences I had AS A CHILD.

If I had different experiences THEN, then I would have different feelings, attitudes, and perspectives NOW. I would actually be a different person.

So then, I am a product of my past.

Well...Yes and No. I don't think anyone can deny that your childhood experiences play a major role in shaping a person. HOWEVER, with adulthood comes the power to MAKE CHOICES that determine who you are, and what you become.

Help me out...At what point does a person's life become their own?
