Should Spanking be Banned?

Check out the article and tell me what you think.

I can identify TOO WELL with the youngest person in the picture above.
The only difference is my parents never wanted to break their nails, so other "objects" were used to dish out the punishment.
Though I can't ever remember enjoying the whoopins' I got, I thank God for them (at least most of them)! All of the correction and discipline I received was balanced by a greater amount of love.
As a result, I recognized--even then--that I was not being abused. I was being trained to understand the difference between right and wrong.
What are your thoughts on "corporal punishment"?

Sometimes you need to knock that nonsense out of their head and there is nothing like a good whooping to help facilitate that.

Think of corporal punishment as a RESET button.

When used sparingly, it helps the product revert to original manufacturing specifications. Then, and only then, can your child function under normal operating parameters.

In their attempt to prevent abuse, does the government have the right to keep me from physically disciplining my child?

The government should intervene in those situations where it is painfully obvious that the child is being PUMMELED (black eyes, torn up lips, gashes, dislocated jaws, broken noses, maimed or broken appendages, etc.)

Finding an extension cord imprint on a child is not necessarily child abuse (I would need to hear the offense). You have to remember, in 2000 and beyond, there are some BILLY BAD ASSES running around!

Further, the government can't raise children any better than parents, so I don't think its good intentions gives it the sovereignty to keep a parent from physically disciplining a child.
